I have worked as an Administrative Assistant at B M Howarth Ltd for over 25 years, providing support to the team and assisting management with the smooth running of the offices.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and catching up with friends.
I joined B M Howarth Limited in 2022 after completing my degree in Business Economics, and have since progressed within the tax department, achieving my ATT qualification with the firm.
Since then, I have gained experience across a range of personal and business tax matters, with an increasing focus on advisory work and more complex areas of taxation. I support clients with planning matters and technical queries, alongside managing their ongoing tax affairs.
I work closely with colleagues across the firm to provide clear, practical support and place a strong emphasis on building good working relationships with clients, helping them feel confident in their tax position as their circumstances evolve.
Outside of work, I enjoy reading and spending time with friends and family.
I have worked in the legal and insolvency profession for over 25 years and am responsible for all company secretarial matters at BM Howarth.
Outside of work, I am a busy mum to a teenage daughter, and when not acting as mum’s taxi, I enjoy swimming, being outdoors and travelling.
A long time ago, I trained with the Inland Revenue as it was then known. After nearly seven years as a civil servant, I was drawn to the challenge of working for the “other side”. After working for several large firms of accountants and a national firm of tax consultants, I stumbled across BMH more than 25 years ago, and I am still here. The work has been varied and interesting as BMH look after a wide range of clients.
I have been a member of Halifax West End Golf Club for nearly 20 years, where I aim to become a better golfer, though recent results suggest the trend is heading in the wrong direction. I have also been known to “help” in my wife’s noodle bar. This has taken me well outside my tax comfort zone, as it has involved taking customer orders, doing the washing up, and engaging in conversations with customers.
I joined BMH in 2018, primarily working on international internal audit assignments for a major PLC client. I am an experienced consultant, non-executive director and mentor with a strong commercial and financial background. I started my career with Arthur Andersen, where I qualified as a chartered accountant and, over 11 years, progressed to senior manager roles specialising in audit and corporate finance. I then spent over 20 years in CFO roles in the manufacturing, retail and technology sectors, and more recently, providing consultancy services to a variety of businesses and voluntary sector organisations.
I am married with two children and three grandchildren. I am interested in most sports and a keen follower of both Leeds United and Yorkshire cricket. I also enjoy holidays abroad, attending concerts and the theatre and good restaurants!
I began my training at Deloitte in 2015 and worked in Transaction Services.
I have since worked in various M&A and Finance roles across the industry, including at PE-backed and privately owned businesses.
At B M Howarth, I work in Corporate Finance and enjoy the project-based nature of the role.
At home, I am kept busy with a young family. We enjoy visiting new places and trying new things (mostly food!).
I trained and qualified at a small firm in Halifax, Matthews Brooke Taylor & Co, which was bought by BM Howarth in 2000, and we all moved into our current location in West House.
I was lucky to be offered the opportunity to work in internal audit and have travelled the world over the last 25 years, and am now proud to be the internal audit manager for all of our Internal Audit clients.
In my spare time, I enjoy walking my Cavapoo, ‘Cookie’, who is the loveliest, clever little dog and just pleased to see me when I return from my foreign trips.
